Coláiste Gleann Lí is located on the Clash Road in Tralee, adjacent to the Institute of Technology South Campus and is within a two minute walk of Tralee Sports’and Leisure Complex.
Strong Supports for our students
The staff of Coláiste Gleann Lí is committed to the holistic development of each student entrusted in their care. Students are supported in their studies and in their search for meaning and identity. All teachers thereby fulfil a pastoral role in helping students to realise their potential. Each cohort of students is assigned a class tutor and a year head that is available to monitor and support their day to day needs. For the student, it often means that they build up a relationship with this teacher and have a point of contact should they have any queries or concerns. We are an LGBTQ+ inclusive school.
Committed to Assisting the Transition from Primary to Secondary
A range of school based initiatives are in place to assist first years’ with the transition from primary to secondary school.
- An induction day on the first day of school

- An Information Evening for parents held early in the first term
Maintaining Contact With Parents / Guardians
Regular contact between the home and school is maintained through use of computer technology. School reports are sent home each term and there are regular parent-teacher meetings. Parents are welcome to arrange a meeting outside of these times, by appointment, should they have concerns about their child’s wellbeing or progress.
Parents’Council
Parents are encouraged to get involved in the Parents’ Council. This empowers parents to work in cooperation with school management in developing and reviewing school policies. Also, the Parents’ Council has representation on the Board of Management and the KES parents’ Forum.

Coherent Literacy and Numeracy Strategy
The management and staff of Coláiste Gleann Lí are committed to monitoring and improving the levels of literacy and numeracy among our student population. The staff is aware of the importance of improving students’literacy levels in written, aural and oral aspects of the curriculum in the context of preparing students for academic assessment but also in preparation for a full and meaningful future.
Following much collaboration and reflection as a school community our School Improvement Plan (SIP) has been devised. In support of the effective implementation of this plan, strategies are employed by our teaching staff on an individual and departmental level and on a cross curricular basis. The Management and staff of Coláiste Gleann Lí are committed to regularly reviewing and improving their practice and overarching plan for school improvement.
Our Partnership Approach to Fostering Positive Behaviour
Coláiste Gleann Lí has a flourishing Student Council and as a result high priority is placed on student representation and consultation. Therefore it is with great confidence that we present all incoming students with a copy of our Code of Behaviour and ask them to enter into a good behaviour contract with the college on enrolment. There is an onus on students to show courtesy and respect to their peers and school visitors and reciprocate the positive and respectful behaviour shown to them by staff. Our college proudly advocates a system of positive reinforcement where good behaviour is recognised and rewarded accordingly. The code of Behaviour is available for inspection from the school.

The college’s positive relationship with Tralee Sports Complex ensures that we can offer sports facilities of the highest standard for our rich and varied P.E classes as well as for our supervised lunch time games.

In tandem with our efforts to instil the importance of healthy eating in our students’ minds, our college hosts ‘The Healthy Haven’a bustling canteen which offers a salad bar, homemade soups, rolls, nutritious sandwiches and a range of hot and cold beverages.Our college runs a breakfast club each morning.
Superior Computer and Technological Facilities
Our college boasts the highest computer-student ratio in the county. We have high speed internet connection and computer data projectors in every classroom. Such technology enables our vibrant, enthusiastic and highly trained staff to use the latest technology and resources in the deliveryof their subjects. These resources enable staff to ensure students are tracked and monitored positively and assists parents who are updated accordingly.
Encouraging Self-directed Learning
Coláiste Gleann Lí strives to advocate self- directed learning with our student population. We believe that students should be empowered to enable them to become lifelong learners and therefore we have developed a reading room and subject dedicated classrooms as well as programmes such as cross-curricular paired readingand the Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP). Coláiste Gleann Lí also offers a number of full and part scholarships to residential summer courses in Gaeilge and French every year.
Cost Effective Book Loan Scheme
The school has a well established student book loan scheme in a bid to reduce the financial burden on families.Students pay a contribution at the beginning of the school year and receive their books on loan from the school. Students must return these books at the endof the Junior/Leaving Certificate cycle so that they can be used for future students. This initiative has beena complete success and has met with widespreadsatisfaction from all stakeholders.
