At Coláiste Gleann Lí we value the wellbeing of all of those who spend their day within our walls. Creating a positive atmosphere and setting foundations for relationships that flourish through positive interactions is paramount. The JCSP/ Wellbeing strategy team works to make this a reality in the initiatives introduced to promote Student Wellbeing and positive behaviour, along with a comprehensive Wellbeing Programme.

The Friends for Life Programme is an evidence based anxiety prevention and resiliency building programme designed for use in schools. The programme is designed to teach students the skills required to manage their thoughts, emotions and body responses to life stresses. The programme also seeks to develop self-esteem and teach coping skills in a simple and structured way.

ALCOHOL EDUCATION PROGRAMME

The Alcohol Education Programme aims to promote awareness among students of the effects of alcohol and to support the development of personal and social skills, which promote independent decision-making about alcohol. The programme also aims to inform and educate young people about alcohol, highlight the risks of drinking alcohol and in particular drinking to excess and to delay the age at which young people take their first drink.

RSE PROGRAMME

Relationships and Sexuality Education is an important element of a holistic education. It is a lifelong process of acquiring knowledge and understanding of developing attitudes, beliefs and values about sexual identity, relationships and intimacy. In the school setting it is an integral part of general educational provision, which seeks to promote the overall development of the person and which includes the integration of sexuality into personal understanding, growth and development. Through RSE, formal opportunities are provided for young people to evaluate the wide range of information, opinions, attitudes and values which they receive.

LOCKERS

Lockers is an educational resource programme developed to support schools as they address the issue of non-consensual sharing of intimate images, in the context of the Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) class. The programme sets out to foster empathy, respect and resilience and to help young people understand the consequences of their actions. This resource is intended for use with second and third year students as part of the RSE programme.

ALERT PROGRAMME – ‘HOW DOES YOUR ENGINE RUN’

The Alert programme aims to help students monitor, maintain and change their level of alertness so that it is appropriate to the situation or task. The programme identifies students’ sensory needs and preferences and encourages student use of sensory motor strategies to support self-regulation so that their engines are running ‘just right’. The strategies and activities taught can be incorporated into home and school routines.

ANTI-BULLYING ACTION

CGL-FLag-antibullying-Copy.jpg

This anti-bullying programme involves the entire school community to counter bullying behaviour in the school. The programme provides the school community with a collection of tips, strategies and activities designed to address the problem of bullying in schools.

STUDY SKILLS

The Study Skills Programme is designed to provide students with the skills and information needed to deal with the academic challenges of preparing for Junior and Senior Cycle study and examinations. The programme comprises of lessons and workshops on the various aspects of studying. The programme aims to provide students with a range of study skills strategies to help them make maximum and efficient use of their time and thereby improve academic performance, to make learning easier and to help retain what is learned for longer, to feel the work and effort involved is worthwhile and to help reduce stress levels and enhance students belief in their academic ability.
