Coláiste Gleann Lí seeks to enable each student to develop to their full potential. Our whole school guidance plan aims to support the holistic development of all students ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students to discover and nurture their values, talents and abilities and effectively manage their personal transitions while making a positive contribution to society.
Guidance in school refers to a range of learning experiences provided in a developmental sequence that assist students to develop self-management skills which will lead to effective choices and decisions about their lives. It encompasses the three separate, but interlinked, areas of personal and
social development, educational guidance and career guidance.
Counselling offered within a guidance context is a key part of the school guidance programme, offered on an individual or group basis as part of a developmental learning process and at moments of personal crises. Counselling has as its objective the empowerment of students so that they can
make decisions, solve problems, address behavioural issues, develop coping strategies and resolve difficulties they may be experiencing. Counselling may include personal counselling, educational counselling, career counselling or combinations of these.
Coláiste Gleann Lí will;
- provide access as determined by the general resources available in the school and the additional resource allocation for guidance and counselling and other related activities provided by the Department of Education
- provide appropriate guidance that is, the whole school’s response to meeting the guidance and support that is, the whole school’s response to meeting the social, psychological, spiritual, physical, vocational and mental health needs of all of its students.
- bring students to their full potential as developed citizens and responsible young adults.
